On Wednesday my mom, brother and I visited the company gardens. Back when Jan Van Riebeeck first arrived at the Cape, he established a refreshment station for passing sailors. When I learnt this in grade four this is where I thought Uncle Jan bought his coke. I was wrong, this refreshment station was in fact a vegetable garden. In recent months this garden has been revived and is flourishing. We decided to check it out and I left feeling rather inspired and ready to plant some more veggies.
It’s definitely worth a visit! And why not stop by the nearby restaurant while you’re there? It has recently been redone by the owner of Madame Zingara. It is so beautifully decorated and you’ll easily find a delicious, healthy and affordable lunch.
