New beginnings. The beginning of a new year always fills me with hope at the prospect of starting over, trying something new and reflecting on the previous year. I can’t help but smile when I think of how everyone in some way or another is affected by this universal phenomenon. The first week of January brings people of all shapes and sizes out onto the streets and into the gyms as they follow the resolution; ‘Eat less, exercise more’. Filled with good intentions and a renewed motivation to improve their lifestyles this continues until about the middle of January. As school and work start again the schedules begin to brim with the busyness of daily life and slowly but surely we fall back into old habits. The running shoes begin to gather dust and our fridges are slowly filled with the less healthy but more convenient options. The newness of the year begins to wear off and all of a sudden we find ourselves in the same position we were last June.
A little dire isn’t it?
But I don’t believe that that’s the only way it has to be. Let’s embrace this new year. Let’s make this year a healthy one, a year where we try new things, love more, give back and forgive easily. I know that’s a lot harder than it sounds but let’s give it a go. Lucky for us we are creatures of habit. Good habits are as easy to make as bad habits so why not give it a go? I once heard a quote that said “Your personality is the sum total of your habits”. Now that’s some food for thought!
I thought I’d share some of my New Year’s resolutions with you and it’d be great to hear what some of yours are!
This year I’d like to continue living a healthy lifestyle by continuing to cut out all wheat and sugar from my diet.
I would like to try to exercise everyday even if it is only a little bit.
I’m going to plant a large veggie patch as I continue my journey towards self sustainability (you’ll be hearing lots more about that in the weeks to come).
I’m going to find a local charity where I can give back to my community regularly. This is the website I’m using for my local community.
I want to make the most of every opportunity that comes my way and most of all I want to enjoy this year as I complete my final year of high school.
Stay motivated. Stay inspired. Let’s do 2015 well.
